Meet Amy

My Firm

Most people don’t want to hire a lawyer – they need to. I understand that. That is why I created my practice to focus on the needs of my clients. Instead of following the “old school” way of rotely filling out forms and templates just to get the job done, I listen to my clients to determine their goal for resolution. Then I tailor a plan of action to meet that goal. I keep my clients informed every step of the way. Rather than charging a high hourly rate, most matters are handled on a flat or fixed fee. Some matters are more complex and require an hourly rate – this is generally for matters that require court appearances. With those types of cases I will provide a budget so you are not surprised by legal fee invoices.

My Biography

Amy StikovichI graduated from John Marshall Law School in 1996. After graduation I worked for several law firms in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs, where I gained experience in the areas of employment law, insurance defense, contested guardianship and probate, and other litigation matters. I tried several cases to jury verdict. In addition, I served as an arbitrator for the Cook County Mandatory Arbitration system. I successfully defended clients before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Illinois Department of Human Rights, the Illinois Department of Employment Security, and the Illinois Department of Labor.

In the fall of 2006 I opened my own firm – Stikovich Legal Counsel. My goal was and is to provide excellent representation to individuals, small businesses and small medical practices. I develop long-lasting relationships with my clients, and I have had many of the same business clients for 15 years. I relocated to Petoskey in the fall of 2016, and I am looking forward to providing the same level of expertise and service clients here that I have provided to my Chicagoland clients.

I recently completed 40 hours of mediation training, and I am excited to add mediation services to my practice. I volunteer with Northern Community Mediation in Petoskey and Charlevoix. I am currently working on earning my certificate in Estate Planning through the Institute of Continuing Legal Education.
